Oceanography

Oceanography is the scientific study of the oceans, encompassing their physical and chemical properties, biological ecosystems, geological features, and the interactions between the ocean and the atmosphere. It aims to understand the ocean's role in the Earth's climate system, its impact on weather patterns, and its influence on marine life. Oceanography is divided into several sub-disciplines, including physical oceanography, which examines waves, currents, and tides; chemical oceanography, which studies the composition and properties of seawater; biological oceanography, focused on marine organisms and ecosystems; and geological oceanography, which explores the ocean floor and coastal geology. This field combines elements from various sciences to provide insights into ocean dynamics, marine resources, and environmental changes affecting oceanic systems. Oceanography plays a critical role in climate science, conservation efforts, and maritime navigation.
